NYC Department of Homeless Services (DHS)

DHS offers emergency shelter, street outreach (HOME-STAT), and housing assistance programs like CityFHEPS and Homebase. They operate intake centers for single adults, families, and youth.

Shelter and Housing Services

Coalition for the Homeless

Offers a wide range of services including crisis intervention, eviction prevention, job training, and permanent housing programs. Their Resource Guide and Street Sheet are valuable tools for locating services citywide.

Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter (NCS)

Provides neighborhood-specific “Street Sheets” listing free meals, shelters, drop-in centers, and medical care. Available for Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Midtown, and Downtown Manhattan.

Breaking Ground

The Bowery Mission

Ali Forney Center

Dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ homeless youth aged 16–24 with housing, healthcare, and job training.

The Doe Fund

Runs the “Ready, Willing & Able” program, offering paid transitional work, housing, and job training for formerly homeless or incarcerated individuals.
